OVERALL BEST BUSINESS HOTEL IN ASIA BEST BUSINESS HOTEL IN CHINA
WINNER: GRAND HYATT, SHANGHAI
Grand Hyatt Shanghai general manager Edward Tai says the future is bright for his hotel, thanks to a pick up in the global economy and the effective handling of the SARS crisis. Tai said demand was now back to a normal level in Shanghai after a challenging start to 2003. "As the growth in China is expected to continue, and with lessons well learnt on how to deal with SARS, we feel confident that the future is bright," he said.
"The effects of a sluggish world economy have had some effect on the hotel, but due to Shanghai's role as gateway to China, the business opportunities in Shanghai have allowed us to maintain a reasonable level of demand, especially from the corporate market, both for individuals and groups."
Business travellers are vital to the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, accounting for approximately 75 per cent of the hotel's total business.
"Apart from providing the usual business services, amenities and high levels of telecommunication and technology, we aim to make people feel so comfortable with our people and what we can offer that they feel like they are coming back home each time they return. We do this through detailed tracking of their likes and dislikes and through a creative approach designed not only to satisfy them, but to delight them each time they return," Tai said.
Looking to the future, Tai says he remains bullish. "We will strive to continue to improve our standards of service and maintain a 'like-new' feeling throughout the hotel. This approach is in line with our philosophy of ensuring all our guests feel they are receiving value for-money every time they stay with us," he said.
