1. Articles and Submissions
The Review's established format of invited
articles, contributed articles, a policy forum
and a section for students was continued in
2020. The four issues of the Review in 2020
contained 42 articles across the various
categories. A summary of the composition of
the articles published in the past 3 years is
given in Table 1. Although the number of
published articles is relatively unchanged
from recent years, an increase in their average
length resulted in a 20 per cent increase in
total pages to 606.
Readership continues to grow, especially in
Asia. Annual fulltext downloads rose by
13 per cent to 112,000 with 60 per cent being
from outside Australia. The Impact factor
is 0.711.
New submissions of contributed articles
increased to 96. The acceptance rate for
submissions over the last 2 years was 15 per
cent. Table 2 provides detailed information on
the number of contributed articles received
and their disposition. Around 15 per cent of
submissions were from each of Australia,
China and India, with the other 55 per cent
coming from authors in 25 countries.
Submissions which are outside the aims of
the Review or which clearly do not meet the
required standard are rejected by the editors
without going to referees. Around 60 per cent
of articles were rejected in this way. This
enables a quick response to authors of
unsuitable papers and referees are spared
unnecessary work.
As bets a policyoriented journal, we aim
to keep the time between acceptance of
articles and nal publication in an issue of
the Review to around 6 months. Furthermore,
the articles are publicly available on the
website much sooner via early views.
2. Referees
At least two referees are used for submissions
of all articles that proceed to the refereeing
process. The integrity of the system of peer
review is crucially dependent on the work of
our referees. We thank our referees warmly for
their contributions in providing constructive
comments, both to the authors and the editors.
The referees in 2020 were:
Patricia Apps, Jungo Baek, Deepankar
Basu, Tony Blakely, Jeff Borland, Michelle
