The current issue of National Observer features a revealing article by Mervyn Bendle on the continuity of thought (one hesitates to say "philosophy") between those who in the 1960s loved to go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, and those in the West (some of them the very same people) who justify Islamist terrorism today. Dr Bendle is a specialist on the ideological roots of terrorism, having developed courses on the subject at Australian universities.

John Stone's sceptical essay on "global warming" follows, a welcome corrective to the dominant but far from proven theory that the world is heating up due in considerable part to the activities of man. It is testimony to the tyrannical groupthink now forcing the pace on this issue that John Howard should be criticised for taking a sceptical view of the theory of global warming.
