The launch of Australia's first Prostate Cancer Specialist Nursing Program in May 2012 has given men diagnosed with prostate cancer access to specialist nursing care for the entire duration of their treatment.
The program, which is run by nurses in conjunction with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), will deliver 13 specialist nurses to all states and territories in Australia. The role of each nurse will be to work with the patient's medical team and to provide support to diagnosed men and their families as well as helping patients to understand their diagnosis and treatment plan and to facilitate their care and access to services.
