Nurses and other health care professionals must be able to recognise signs of violence in their patients and families, according to Fiji National University School of Nursing Lecturer Akisi Ravono.

Recognition of signs and symptoms of domestic violence would increase knowledge of any existence and extent of a problem. "It would provide early intervention for victims by referring patients to the proper authorities," Ms Ravono said.
