From lightning strikes to kangaroo strikes and even managing an unconscious pilot, Australia's longest serving flight nurse, Maureen Roberts ASM, describes her job with the Air Ambulance Service as just "so amazing".

"You can be out in the country and then you're in the city, all in a day's work, meeting and working with all kinds of people."

Maureen, aged 64, is in her 32nd year with the service. Her commitment was recently rewarded with an Ambulance Service Medal as part of the 2012 Australia Day Honours.

With experience in obstetrics, intensive care and cardiothoracic recovery, Maureen started with Air Ambulance in April 1981. As a senior flight nurse, she said what she "most loves about the job" is meeting people from all walks of life, every day. "It's just one-on-one.
