An E-learning program in NSW has been designed for nurses to help prevent falls.

Nurses play a crucial role in the prevention and management of falls. Inpatient falls represent a major proportion of the adverse events reported in Australian hospitals. Fall rates per 1,000 inpatient days range from 2.2 for general acute medical units, to 20 for long term care and rehabilitation (Coussement et al 2008; Hill et al 2009). In 2009 falls accounted for 886,000 inpatient bed days and represented $1,375 million (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care 2009).
