Shawn Harkins

Detective Sergeant Shawn Harkins has been a member of the NSW Police Force for 21 years having spent a majority of his career within the forensic sciences. As a team leader with the Forensic Evidence & Technical Services Training Unit, he is now responsible for the facilitation and delivery of a number of specialist scientific training courses to forensic investigators and detectives at all experience levels. He has delivered bloodstain pattern analysis-specific training to investigators across Australia.

Since 2007, he has been the principal lecturer in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis for higher education forensic programs at the Canberra Institute of Technology. Detective Sergeant Harkins is the NSW representative for the National Scientific Working Group in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPASWG), former chairperson of that group and now the chair of the Special Advisory Group for Crime Scene & Ballistics (CSBSAG) encompassing a range of operational forensic disciplines.
